Hello! I just stumbled across your gallery randomly, so I'll try to offer you some helpful comments, maybe give you a few ideas. ^_^
Yes, simple is best. I think you did well with the eyes -- the color choice was a good one. I don't think you need the glow on the highlights, though. Highlights actually look shinier without a glow, because the contrast between the light and a dark background is higher that way.
Lineart is hard... For me, doing lines is really tedious and boring; coloring is the fun part. For this picture the even, simple lineart is nice, but maybe you can also try doing lineart in a more rough and scribbly style, overlapping strokes to make dark areas which contrast with the light areas. I personally find that technique a more fun and easy way to do lines, so maybe it would work for you. One still has to clean the mistakes up, though, otherwise it looks funny.
And maybe try being crazy with your colors. Use the color of an apricot to shade your skin. Use a deep murky burgundy in your shadows. Use 20 colors of gray. I commaaaand yooou... *mind control rays*
This is really nice and cute. Simplicity isn't easy, and you've achieved a nice simplicity here. Please keep submitting things for us to see! ... And tell your brother that drawing improves your spacial reasoning and perceptive abilities. Algebra helps you sometimes. A well-developed brain helps you all the time.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
